On November 3, 1919, at the Savoy Hotel in London, a group of experts gathered with the aim of changing the paradigm of logistics. They witnessed the problems in freight transportation during the First World War and, after its conclusion, decided to create an organization that could bring about changes and set new standards. Thus, the Institute of Transport was born.
The initial goals of the group were to increase transport efficiency, ensure transport integration, and promote talent development in the transportation industry. These are still the goals we strive to achieve today.
In 1926, King George V granted us a Royal Charter, in which he served as the patron and the Prince of Wales as the honorary president.
The significance and influence of the Institute increased worldwide We established territorial organizations in ten countries, and in 1971, we were granted the title of the Chartered Institute of Transport by Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2001, we became the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport as a result of the merger of two leading professional organizations.
