Community activities
WiLAT works with women at every career stage, from students and young professionals to experienced practitioners and entrepreneurs.
Conferences, industry discussions and meetings help members share experience, learn about new practices and build professional connections.
Mentoring programmes and educational initiatives help women develop their competencies and find their path in logistics and transport.
WiLAT initiatives support equal opportunities, environmental responsibility and more sustainable development of the transport sector.
The community's origins
In 2010, a group of CILT members led by Aisha Ali Ibrahim formed the first WiLAT group.
The initiative grew from women's need for professional support and the exchange of experience. WiLAT was launched internationally within CILT in 2013.
The first WiLAT group of women professionals is formed.
At its annual convention, CILT supports sharing the initiative's experience more widely.
WiLAT is launched internationally on 3 June at the CILT convention.
The letter W becomes silhouettes of birds in flight. The emblem reflects flexibility and the ability to work together — qualities important to women in logistics and transport.

Institutional framework
WiLAT operates within CILT as a professional women's community. The institute's rules refer to it as Forum within CILT.
The rules establish WiLAT's internal organisational model and do not create a separate legal entity. Local groups are formed within CILT territorial organisations and branches.
A local WiLAT group is accountable to the CILT territorial council and WiLAT's international coordinating body. Its annual plan is included in the local CILT organisation's plan; financial records and fund management follow the local council's rules.
WiLAT Forum Operational Guidelines, revised on 24 October 2022: section 1 — status within CILT; clause 5.1 — accountability; the annual plan section and section 6 — finance.
The rules refer to CILT Forum Protocol Document (November 2017). They allow agreed adaptations to local legislation and circumstances. The wording above describes the model established by these rules and does not confirm each group's registration status in individual countries.
The official CILT International page confirms that WiLAT groups are established within CILT territorial organisations and branches. Where CILT is not yet represented, a different coordination arrangement applies.
